Notes on Conversation under a tree

Olivier Foulon (born Brussels, 1976) & Alexander Lieck (born Berlin, 1967) both live and work in Berlin. They first met in 2006 when Lieck visited Foulon’s Redites et ratures, a solo exhibition at Project Just in Düsseldorf. In 2008, together with Steve Van den Bosch, Koenraad Dedobbeleer, Willem Oorebeek, Walter Swennen and Joëlle Tuerlinckx, they participated in Merz im Februar, a group exhibition at :emyt, Berlin, initiated by Alexander Lieck and Susanne Prinz. In 2016, they made Cafard, their first collaborative work, the twenty-third issue of 24pages, published in Berne by Manuel Burgener. Later that year, it was exhibited at Rib in Rotterdam. Invited to create duo shows by their respective gallerists (Nadia Vilenne, Joseph Tang, Marietta Clages), Foulon & Lieck produced a series of twenty-two paintings entitled Garçon, seven of them shown in Garçon at Galerie Joseph Tang, Paris, one at Paris International (both 2017), and nine more in Wem der Tarnfleck steht at Galerie Clages, Cologne (2018). In 2018, a selection of ten Garçon and one sheet of Cafard were included in Alexander Lieck’s solo exhibition Mein Europa at Kunstverein Hannover. For the first time, on the occasion of the group exhibition The Immanent Horizon, Olivier Foulon & Alexander Lieck have been invited for their collaborative practice.
